"etymology_text": "From *welh₁- (“to want, will”). More specifically, according to De Vaan, the term reflects a root aorist *wélh₁-t ~ *wl̥h₁-énti. However, the term has also been derived from an athematic Narten present *wḗlh₁-ti ~ *wélh₁-n̥ti. The subjunctive forms of the Latin verb (e.g. velim, velīs) may indicate earlier Narten ablaut, as they imply the existence of preforms such as *wél-ih₁-m̥ or *wél-ih₁-s, whih contain the full-grade of the root in the optative forms—a phenomenon found in Narten presents—as opposed to the regular zero-grade of the root in the optative forms of regular athematic root presents. The second singular form *wels is probably from the root *weyh₁- (“to strive after”).",

"etymology_text": "From *welh₁- (“to want, will”). More specifically, according to De Vaan, the term reflects a root aorist *wélh₁-t ~ *wl̥h₁-énti. However, the term has also been derived from an athematic Narten present *wḗlh₁-ti ~ *wélh₁-n̥ti. The subjunctive forms of the Latin verb (e.g. velim, velīs) may indicate earlier Narten ablaut, as they imply the existence of preforms such as *wél-ih₁-m̥ or *wél-ih₁-s, whih contain the full-grade of the root in the optative forms—a phenomenon found in Narten presents—as opposed to the regular zero-grade of the root in the optative forms of regular athematic root presents. The second singular form *wels is probably from the root *weyh₁- (“to strive after”).",
